Top 5 Recommended Podcasts that have stood the test of time

My motherhood experience after returning back to work became very isolating and lonely. I craved moments of being around other moms to just talk about my kids. It’s funny now that I am supporting parents in this space all I want to do is talk about work. I guess when passion and life collide into the perfect match of your career the lines get a little blurred.

Almost 6 years ago when I had my first child there wasn’t online communities that I felt were data rich and a safe place to turn to related to motherhood. My husband was always listening to podcasts while I was checking out talk radio stations. In 2018 I finally downloaded the Apple podcast app and began searching for quality content that would feed my data seeking soul with good conversation to break away from the isolation of motherhood.

Podcasts have helped me through some pretty tough moments in motherhood including loss, toddler tantrums, marriage, family, work, and literally the moments I just need to stay awake until the end of the day. Often times music is not playing in my car I crave the consumption of information. So when the kids are in the care they are along for the ride with me learning or zoning out, but honestly, I don’t mind because I know it’s good insight into parenthood.

Okay enough is enough here are the 5 podcasts I recommend that have been in heavy rotation over the past two years. There are many more so stay tuned for another upcoming post related to working parents and newer podcasts that I’m loving as well.

The Mom Hour

This was the very first parenting podcast I discovered. My oldest son who is turning 6 next month recognized the theme song and even references it by name. I actually don’t think I have missed one of their episodes at this point. I love how Megan and Sarah attack parenting topics and provide thoughtful advice based on their own experience. In addition to their weekly parenting podcast they have monthly interviews with great experts and a “More than Mom Hour”.

What Fresh Hell Laughing in the Face of Motherhood

I absolutely love Amy and Margret’s take on parenting. They also are not afraid to disagree on how they feel about a topic. Amy is always providing researched material to almost every episode and Margret’s very clear point of view is such a breath of fresh air.

Kristen Howerton, Sarah James, and the new co-host Roo Powell are dedicated to sharing selfcare tools from everything related to skincare, motherhood, sex, mental health, and physical health. They are sharing a very honest look into the day to day of their life along with digging into what selfcare means.
